NFL Free Pick: Panthers vs. Ravens Gambling Lines & Handicapping Preview

Week #4: Carolina vs Baltimore Predictions

NFL Week 4 betting action sees the Carolina Panthers taking on the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday September 27th at M&T Bank Stadium.  Cappers Picks provides free NFL handicapping tips all season long.

Both of these teams are 2-1 but haven’t really impressed. One of these will be 3-1 and in great position even though it might be an impostor.

Carolina

Though they are coming off a loss the Panthers have to be pretty pleased with their season so far. Cam Newton missed the opener but they are still 2-1 and tied for first in the NFC South.

A look behind the numbers shows that this team has not been dominating on defense or in the running game, the two staples of their success.

Instead, and despite the fact they don’t have elite pass catchers, they have been a top 10 passing offense.

I don’t expect that to continue.

When Cam Newton is on your side you always have a chance. Still I am not liking what I am seeing from Carolina thus far and the fact that Greg Hardy is still out of the lineup is a major factor, especially against a team that is going to want to throw a lot like Baltimore.

The Panthers need to get back to playing Panther football and until that happens I will be waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Baltimore

When the Ravens lost at home the first week of the season it seemed a lot like a changing of the guard with the Bengals winning in a style reminiscent of those feared Ravens teams.

Since then Baltimore has won both games but with Cincinnati still perfect they are essentially a couple of games back in the AFC North.

This version certainly has its faults but they should be a player in the division race all season long.

Even though their running game was expected to be a disaster the Ravens might have found the answer in the form of Justin Forsett.

Baltimore is going to be a pass first team this season but with Forsett they have found someone who can repeatedly move the ball forward and has good hands as well.

The need to keep teams honest and as long as he can do Joe Flacco should continue having success throwing the ball as well.

NFL Football Handicapping Trends

  • Panthers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in Week 4.
  • Under is 5-0 in Panthers last 5 games following a SU loss of more than 14 points.
  • Panthers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.
  • Over is 5-0 in Ravens last 5 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game.
  • Ravens are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game.
  • Ravens are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game.

NFL Football Week #4 Prediction:  4* Play on Baltimore -3.5

The Ravens are generally a solid team to back at home.  Look for them to get up early and then hunker down and defend the lead throughout the game.

NFL Score prediction:  Baltimore 27 – Carolina 19

Pretty good value here.
